What Exactly is a Pit Bull Bloodline?

Not everyone is aware of all the Pit Bull bloodlines, instead they adopt or purchase just a Pit Bull. Now, there’s nothing wrong with that, by any means, but to fully understand the breed and the history, it’s always good to understand the different bloodlines. In order to be considered a true breed bloodline, the dog must have characteristics that are distinguishable from a dog with a different pedigree line. Not ever dog breeder’s kennel will be a bloodline, especially without proper reputation and representation of good quality dogs.

Pit Bull breeders can create a new bloodline by many different methods. Some breeders will selectively breed many different dogs with a specific trait in order to produce litters of puppies that may also have this trait; then the puppies are either bred back to parents, grandparents or other family members, or bred to other dogs with similar features. OR, one dog may be used to father an entire bloodline, using quality mates (generally, this works better when the male has the feature the breeder is breeding for). The Razor’s Edge bloodline was created using many different dogs, whereas the Remyline bloodline was created with one dog.

Each breeder has a different goal in mind, and whether that’s to breed for disposition, physical features or both, only quality dogs are used in breeding programs. Sometimes new bloodlines occur by accident, but in most cases, the intent is set from the start.
